You may have spotted that from time to time we just like to use AI to do things that make absolutely no sense. Ronald the Goat is predicting the Euro 2024 results, I don’t know about you but could AI do better. Let’s build some prompts to find out.

Beating Ronald the Goat

Disclaimer, we have absolutely no idea if any of these predictions are likely, current competition is Ronald the Goat, though previous challengers have been Sid the Octopus, and a Parrot called Mystic Peck, oh and an Orangutan. Tough crowd.

lets just ask all the AI’s

First up, a straight Perplexity ‘Page’ - It’s only input was the title. ‘Euro 2024 Final Predictor’

A little prompt engineering

Lets try a prompt into the leading AI’s and see if we can get a combined view.

You are to consider and work as a data scientist and football pundit, whilst I know it is impossible to be sure, do your best, show your workings between <scratchpad> and then In your final <response>. We are exclusively considering the EURO 2024 competition. You may use whatever tools and resources are appropriate to make the best predictions possible. 

Step 1. section predict each of the group stages tables final positions, include goals scored and conceded, and the calculated points

Step 2. Identify the 12 top finalists, and the four best third place qualifiers

Step 3. Following the structure of the tournament, predict the winners of for the next round of 8 matches, include the scores

step 4. select the 4 quarter finalists, predict the winners of the quarter finals, include the scores

Step 5. predict the outcome of the final, who will win the tournament and what will the goals scored be

Step 6. For Bonus points - Which player will score the most goals, which team will get the most yellow and red cards

use a markdown format to Provide these results in clear tables for the various stages and as bullet points as needed.
