The Unfolding:ai newsletter about AI for Business Professionals

Hi Everyone,

We always like you to get the most value out of the newsletter, in addition to the email version of the newsletter there is a supporting website where you can log on and get to all the previous versions.

Is it a little late to use a play on words Star wars tag line? Unfold was actually born as a concept and brought into life starting the week May 4th 2023. So we are just a year old now, and may the force be with you all!

ChatGPT 4o

Probably the most, and least, significant update in one announcement. It is in rollout at the moment (as a subscriber I do have it..)

Significant

For all users an uplift to the chatGPT 4 model. This unlocks a host of features

  • Upload datafiles (all formats, text, csv, zip files, code, music, audio, video) probably the defining change on making the application easier to use for data driven activities.

  • chatGPT 4o model. Multi modal (pictures, sound, etc) and also significantly better than chatGPT3.5. I can’t express enough to companies how much better 4 is than 3.5. 99% of the time when people are struggling to find the use for AI chat solutions, its frustrations that ‘it should be able to .. but it’s just so unreliable’, they are using a chatGPT3.5 level tool. This is a strong improvement in capabilities.

  • Updates to the IOS App

Not significant (to most people, or yet)

  • The ‘talking personality assistant’.. cute but probably a gimmick. We have humans and co-workers to have a joke, chat and empathise with. Do we need a talking toaster? Actually I like the voice from an accessibility point of view, I just don’t like the forced ‘humanisms’ or erms, laughs and giggles.

  • GPT Store, there are a million apps in the GPT store, I use exactly zero of them. There maybe diamonds amongst the rubbish, but the User experience of the store is dreadful, its gamed by app developers, it has no controls, quality controls, security controls.

  • A desktop App (for macs only)

  • devalues the subscription version, but as a business you should be using ‘Teams plan’ for data privacy anyway.

Summary

It’s a good update, and starts to remove the usefulness barriers for AI. It will definitely continue to pressure the competition to do more. It is not chatGPT5, it’s not a game-changer, though I expect the use of video / images more will yield really interesting use cases.
