The Unfolding:ai weekly newsletter about AI for Business Professionals
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the 117th of January. This month seems to be the longest and coldest, its also been a relatively quiet week of AI activity. Most of the conversation around impact is based on the information from Davos, and on a product release just a little pricing activity from Microsoft.
Hope you are all settling into 2024, and this year is a stronger growth year than last year.
Table of Contents
We are a growing newsletter, we appreciate every share and recommendation.
Where will the Impact be
Amongst the papers from Davos there was one called ‘Jobs of Tomorrow, Large Language Models and Jobs’. Reflecting the overall general expected impact the paper did (in the appendices) break out the impact by industry, and by job functional area. Impact has been defined into 4 areas.
Non Language Tasks - (no language, maths, coding)
Low Potential for AI Impact
Potential for Augmentation
Potential for Automation
There is also a very interesting section on ‘Emerging Jobs’.
AI Model and Prompt Engineers: These professionals will be at the forefront of developing and refining large language models (LLMs). Their roles will encompass a variety of skill sets, from programming and designing custom chips to managing server infrastructure and ensuring stable energy sources. A key aspect of their job will be to evolve prompts for LLMs to enhance their effectiveness.
Interface and Interaction Designers: Tasked with making LLMs accessible to the general public, these designers will focus on creating user-friendly interfaces. Their work will involve adapting LLMs to various inputs and tasks, including the development of AI assistants and coaches. They'll also play a role in reinforcement learning with human feedback, training models on preferred responses.
AI Content Creators: Utilising the capabilities of LLMs, these creators will produce diverse content ranging from articles and books to training materials and storylines for movies and TV series. Their role is to leverage the knowledge and understanding of LLMs for rapid, in-depth content creation across various fields.
Data Curators and Trainers: With the quality of an LLM's output dependent on its training data, these professionals will focus on curating and maintaining high-quality data sets. They will perform quality checks and ensure the integrity of the data used for training LLMs.
Ethics and Governance Specialists: Addressing the ethical implications of LLMs, these specialists will be responsible for ensuring that training data is free of bias and that LLM systems are ethically sound before public release. Their role includes testing LLMs, overseeing AI safety, and collaborating with regulators and lawyers for compliance.
There are a couple of interesting thoughts here, ‘AI content creator’, is this a new role or just an evolution of existing marketing and author roles? I also think that prompt engineer will also have an automation aspect to it.
