AI Adoption Update | Issue 14
Welcome to Issue 14 of unfolding ai. Q4 is going to be the quarter when a lot of enterprises are thinking about the impact of AI, and the move from thinking to planning what to do. If 2023 was the ‘breakout’ year for generative AI, 2024 Is going to be the get started year.

Update on AI Adoption
One of the ways that we keep a view of the adoption of AI, beyond the hype cycle of the news, is simply tracking average daily active users on chatGPT. It’s not a perfect measure but it is indicative.

We last updated this slide in July, which at the time indicated we were in Early Adopter phase.
Largest AI Rollout
Microsoft have released to availability the various Office 365 AI Co-pilots, only for enterprise users. The uplift per user per month (depends on your license), is in the order of £30 per user. Considering the potential upside on productivity, whilst this looks like an expensive bill, for a mid sized company, some limited application could be advantageous.
If you consider an average £100 per hour of costs for a knowledge worker, even a modest gain in the use of excel/powerpoint on time would in theory reap payback quickly.
However, just because the tools are released, if you don’t change how you work / processes to adopt them, then they are just an expense.
